There is an abundance of fruit in our city that goes to waste every year. We have heard from so many people that they have more apples than they know what to do with! This can be especially challenging in bumper crop years or with hard to use fruit like crabapples.
This is where Prairie North Cider Co. comes in.
By donating fruit to Prairie North Cider Co. you are contributing to a movement to reduce the amount of food that goes unused in our city. Just like our Baba’s did, we make the best use of the fruit available to us and adapt to what is in abundance. We will turn your apples, crab apples, and any other rescued fruit into craft cider.
Like a traditional barn raising, we bring our community together for the collective good. We have teamed up with other local organizations like the Edmonton’s Food Bank and Operation Fruit Rescue to have a strategic food system impact. With the help of individual fruit donors, we believe we can make a strong positive impact in our community.
YEGCIDER in Support of Edmonton’s Food Bank
The apples and crabapples collected locally will be made into a “YEGCIDER” where $1 per litre sold will be donated to Edmonton’s Food Bank. Any extra fruit will be put towards making other ciders throughout the year that will also be paired with a local non-profit through our Community Cider Charity Program.
Backyard Harvest Club for Donors
All fruit donors will be entered into our Backyard Harvest Club. As a Backyard Harvest Club member you will receive perks like discounts on classes and merchandise as well as invites to exclusive events. Your fruit donation, along with volunteering with one of our community partners or participating on social media, also earns you entries in our end of season draw for great prizes.
Fruit Donations Details
Donations can be made beginning on August 15th at our drop-off location in central Edmonton as well as at several events around the city throughout the harvest season. You can find all the details on our Backyard Harvest page.
