Legally, we can’t. To give back to the community for their generous donations, we have created two programs: We are pairing each of our ciders with a local non-profit – that means we will need quite a few partners! If you think your favourite charity would be a good partner for us, let us know! Our commitment is to embracing local – flavours, culture and producers! We rescue unwanted fruit from our neighbours through our Backyard Harvest. We respectfully forage in the river valley. We buy other ingredients as locally as possible. All the ciders we make honour Prairie flavours and culture. Learn more about our cider and Why We Make Cider? We are so close to being open! We have found a location and are working on permits and licenses. We are expecting to take fruit donations through our Backyard Harvest this summer of 2019, with an official launch in the fall of 2019. Once we are up and running we will be offering tours and tastings! Sign up for Fresh from the Press for details of our opening. This list doesn’t include all possibilities. If you happen to come across something else growing in the prairies that you think might be good in cider, let us know! If you need help in picking, we have partnered with Operation Fruit Rescue who has volunteers that may be able to harvest. Because of high demand, Operation Fruit Rescue volunteers will not be able to get to every house. If you are able to, we encourage you to pick your fruit or see if a neighbour or family member can help! Next year we are hoping to hire someone who can help homeowners who need assistance picking. Bring your fruit in whatever container you’d like. We have bins that you can empty it into when you drop it off. We accept fruit that is ugly, imperfect, or too tart to eat. See our infographic below for a visual guide: YES! Many of the non-profits in the city have told us that they don’t want crab apples as they often become a burden. Cider is one of the best ways to use up the abundance of hard to process and often sour or tart crab apples. Not yet, but stay tuned. We are very close to launching a product to market. Subscribe to Fresh from the Press or find us on social media if you want to know when we launch! Our little yegcider grew into Prairie North Cider Co! We are the same people behind yegcider, but with a new brand. Over the last few years, we have been waiting for the right time to turn our hobby into a business and now is the time to take that leap! Read our story. We will continue to rescue local fruit and create experimental cider inspired by the distinct flavours and culture of the prairies. The Prairie North brand allows us to make the cider that we are so proud of and invest back into our communities through our time, energy, and profits. But don’t say goodbye to yegcider just yet… Because we couldn’t bare to part with it, we will be launching a cider made entirely of local fruit that will carry on the yegcider name. We will continue to use #yegcider to promote a reduction of food waste, to embrace local fruit, and to encourage the development of great craft cidermakers and cider drinkers in Alberta. LOL. We are business partners and we live together, but are not a couple. Think more Will & Grace, than Ross & Rachel.Load More
